While following the tutorial of the “Wizard’s Lab” scene, I could not find proper materials for the books and the table so I did not follow the old and shabby style as in the tutorial. Instead I created the scene like it was just decorated and basking in the sunset. Be it so 🤣.
The objects in this scene are full of details. The skills involved are:
- Modeling of hard surface objects
- Modeling of 3D objects with 2D curves:
- Use the Spin tool to generate the shape of the candlestick from the 2D profile
- Extrude the 2D curve to 3D surfaces as the magic scroll
- Boolean modifier: generate the window frame shape using the boolean modifier
- Wireframe modifier: generate the window grid object from the grid wires using the wireframe modifier
- Sculpting: use the sculpting tool to create the surface of the candle
- Modeling of 3D objects with 2D curves:
- HDRI environment texturing
- The sunset scene out the window
- Realistic PBR Materials
- Transparent materials
- The magic globeļ¼the round jar and the rectangular bottle
- Simulated liquid and wax effects through sub-surface scattering
- Liquid in the round jar and the rectangular bottle
- The candle
- Transparent materials
- Blender’s composition
- Global mask: concentrate the focus to the center of the scene and dim the surroundings
- Blurring for glowing layer: add halo effects to the glowing objects (the magic globe, smokes and flames)
Direct rendering of “Wizard’s Lab”
After post composition
Post processing effects are added, to darken the whole scene and focus the center part, add halo effects to the glowing objects (the globe, the smokes and the candle flames), add warm tones.
The magic globe
The candle and the candle holder
The magic scroll
The ring
Fresnel Node was used so that the characters on the ring can emit in different intensities when viewed from different angles.
The round jar
The rectangular bottle
